Todd and Kate are the owners of Sweet Homes. We met in 2007, and we bought our beach house, The Sand Castle, the same year. After less than a year of renting it through another local company, our investment home wasn't renting enough or being cared for up to our standards, and it wasn't bringing in the income we had anticipated. After shopping around for other rental options, we decided to rent the home ourselves; the result was that we increased our booking and our income by 300%.
Shortly thereafter we were asked to manage Todd's parents’ beach house and their friends’ two homes, and before we knew it Sweet Homes was born.We established Sweet Homes Rentals in 2008. Despite the recession we have steadily and strategically grown in partnership with owners of beautiful beachfront and ocean view homes. Along the way we have had the good fortune to rent their homes year-round, at good market rates, and bring them the income needed to sustain their investment. More recently we opened a Sweet Homes office in the center of Yachats on Hwy. 101 to increase our visibility and better serve our clients. Before that, we were quite successful running the business entirely online. Now we have the best of both worlds: a brick-and-mortar in town, and an established online business.
Born and raised in Portland with long-term family ties Yachats, Todd has 20+ years of photography, film, directing, advertising and tech experience that he brings to Sweet Homes. Kate may be an East coaster by birth, but she’s a West coaster by choice now. With a Ph.D. in Sociology, Kate is a professor and Dean of the Graduate College at a major university where she handles more than 4,000 students and over 135 graduate programs. Kasey, a proud Yachats resident, is our property manager for Sweet Homes and co-owner of both Fresh Digs, our cleaning company, and our Laundromat, The Sud Sea. She is also an architect and designer who has worked with numerous homeowners to update, restore and redesign their homes.
Together our diverse backgrounds have prepared us for success in this once new endeavor; we’ve now become ‘old hats’ in the boutique rental business, but we continue to learn. As a small but vibrant team of professionals, we strive to stay ahead of the curve by constantly innovating and improving the business and our outstanding service to our guests and homeowners.
